From the warm shores of Cuba to the ancient vineyards of the Karst in Slovenia, a story DOMJO "DON JOSE" it is not only a story about wine, but also a story about a man, a family and a legacy.

My name is José, but everyone in the Karst knows me as "José from Cuba". I came to Slovenia in 2003, fleeing communism in Cuba, in search of a better future for my family. It was a journey full of challenges but also hope. Little did I know then that fate would lead me to discover a new passion in a corner of Europe that was unknown to me, but soon turned into my home.

Shortly after arriving in Slovenia, I met Tina, a wonderful woman who changed my life. Her family, Cencič, accepted me as one of their own, and it was in the Karst, known for its exceptional wines and prosciutto, that I discovered the art of viticulture. Under the mentorship of Janko, Tineja's father, I learned the secrets of the old winemaking traditions, which are passed down from generation to generation with love and devotion.

The path was not easy. While I was helping in the vineyards, I decided to study at the Wine School in Nova Gorica, where I acquired all the technical knowledge necessary for modern vinification. I was determined to combine the best of Slovenian traditions with the latest technology.

In October 2021, when Janko sadly passed away, I felt the weight of responsibility. I knew I had to honor his legacy and carry on the family tradition. This is how DOMJO was born, which means "José's House". This name reflects not only my name, but also the merging of two worlds: my birthplace in Cuba and my new home in the Karst.

AT HOME Tina and I work hand in hand, creating wines that are a true expression of our love for the land and the traditions that Janko passed on to us. We produce exceptional white wines such as Malvazija and robust red wines such as Teran, always with heart in every bottle.

Our story is a story of perseverance, love and respect for the earth. Every sip of our wines tells a chapter of this journey: from Cuban palm trees to the robust vineyards of the Karst, through the learning and dedication that gave life to DOMJO.

DOMJO is not just a wine brand; is a story of love, respect for the earth and gratitude. Every day, José expresses his gratitude to Janko for the trust and knowledge he gave him, and to his winegrower neighbors for the support and advice that guided him on his way. Every bottle that comes from the DOMJO cellar carries this story within it, a story that we hope you can taste in every sip.
